Jason Brown
President and Chief Range Officer
Committee
Jason Brown
In his role as President and Chief Range Officer, Jason chairs the monthly in-season committee meetings along with the annual general meeting. When taking over the role he produced a plan to update the role of the rifle association and to modernise the existing processes. That plan is underway and is always open to change when better ideas and enhancements come along.
Jason has been shooting since 1978, in the beginning he was using his mother's air rifle to topple piles of empty food cans, over time he progressed through a Barnett wildcat crossbow and another 2-3 air rifles plus a Gat air pistol. Whilst in air cadets some years later he had his first experiences of using true firearms, the Lee Enfield Model 4 .303 bolt-action rifle and the L1A1 7.62mm SLR.
A member of Chester gun club in the early 1990s he progressed to .22 rimfire handgun shooting just prior to the pistol ban. More time was spent with air rifles prior to his moving to the Isle of Man in 2019, his favourite was an El Gamo with recoil action that he later traded for an old BSA.
His next foray was into smallbore rifle shooting, competing for Kirkmichael rifle club until the 2024-2025 season when problems with his neck meant that shooting in a sling and jacket became a significantly painful exercise. He has since started shooting full-bore pistol and is a keen IPSC shooter. Whilst no longer in a position to compete within the small-bore rifle league, Jason is still keen to serve the small-bore shooting community, and does so through his role as president.
