Champions Port St Mary Sign Off in Style

Port St Mary ended their winter campaign with an excellent team score to beat visitors Sulby. With the Association’s patron, the Lieutenant Governor, Sir John Lorimer, in attendance, the 2025–26 Winter League champions secured a 489–481 victory. Paul Clague was top gun on the night with 99, while Ben Kelly and junior shooter Hayden East followed closely with 98s. Ashley Gardner and Tom Pirson completed the Division 1 team with 97 apiece. For the visitors, Peter Webb was top scorer with a season-best 98, while Mark Boyde also impressed with 97.

Castletown rode their luck in their final home match of the season, coming out 472–462 winners against an understrength Douglas side. Nigel Christian chalked up 97 for the hosts, while Sam Jones, Christian Eaton, and Dave Humphrey all posted 96 for the visitors. A couple of Castletown shooters suffered ‘flyers’ on their final target, but the home side had the depth to secure the points and all but guarantee the Division 1 runners-up spot.

Sandsiders secured the points against Kirk Michael, winning 470–387. Jean Quaye and Andy Traynor impressed for the hosts with 99 and 98 respectively, while Perryn Watson and Rachael Glover both returned 98s for the visitors.

Next week brings the final round of the Winter League, and with the overall standings unlikely to change, attention will turn to the race for individual honours. Laxey, who have several shooters in contention, return to action with a trip to Kirk Michael.

Castletown, meanwhile, travel to the Sinclair Range to face Sandsiders and need only to avoid defeat to secure second place ahead of Laxey — so no ‘flyers’ next week.

Sulby, still in contention for runners-up spots in Divisions 2 and 3, host Douglas in what promises to be another competitive fixture.

Anyone looking for a new challenge and interested in taking up target shooting is encouraged to get in touch with Douglas Rifle Club. The club is based at the Sinclair Range, just outside St John’s, with club nights held on Sundays. For more information, contact douglas.rifleclub@gmail.com
